Luminescence Library

A space dedicated to the visual arts and cultural development of children and young people, with a collection of over 1,700 publications. Opened in 2013, it promotes access to reading, workshops, cinema, and collaborative projects that integrate art, science, and technology. Recognized by the Ministry of Culture with the Pontos de Leitura Award, it is an important incubator of ideas and human development in the region.

The Luminescência Library, specializing in visual arts, opened in 2013 in the village of Crasto, in Santa Luzia do Itanhy, Sergipe, and aligns with THP's vision of fostering human development in the region through the integration of art, science, and technology. For this model to be successful, it is crucial to encourage the arts, especially among adolescents and young adults, providing conditions for new generations to lead future processes of creation and socioeconomic development.

The name Luminescência celebrates the bioluminescence of some species of dinoflagellates in the region and the enlightenment that knowledge brings to people.

In addition to its collection of over 1,440 books on visual arts, the library offers 329 children's literature publications, given its location near the Sítio do Pica Pau Amarelo Municipal Early Childhood Education School.

In 2022, the space underwent renovations and welcomed the Romanceirinhos do Itanhy project, where children from the village had the opportunity to develop characters for children's books, produced collaboratively with teenagers from the Arte Naturalista project. The result was the launch of the "Tem uma história no meu desenho" collection, featuring 20 books, and most importantly, the development of a new audience for the library. In 2023, Luminescência was recognized with the Pontos de Leitura Award, promoted by the Ministry of Culture (MinC), which encompasses projects that have contributed to strengthening reading practices in urban and rural contexts, encompassing communities and peoples representative of Brazil's cultural diversity. With its doors always open, the Luminescência space is one of our main idea incubators in the region. Classes, workshops, and even movie screenings for children are held there.
